We are experts in antibiotics and infectious disease.
Our primarily inpatient practice sees consults in Pinellas County, specifically at HCA Largo and Pasadena Hospitals and BayCare St. Anthony's Hospital. Our outpatient space for follow up after a hospital stay is based in Largo, FL.
RACHEL F. IRBY, MD, FIDSA
Dr. Irby completed undergraduate training at the University of Florida, and attended medical school at the University of South Florida (USF). She graduated medical school in 2006, and stayed at USF for her Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Disease Fellowship, which she completed in 2011. She worked in private practice in Tampa until 2019, primarily at Tampa General Hospital and Memorial Hospital of Tampa. She was Chief of Staff at Memorial Hospital from 2017 to 2018. She started ID Team in 2019, based at Largo Hospital and now also cares for patients at St Anthony's Hospital in St Pete. Dr. Irby is the Infectious Disease Physician Advisor for the Transplant Institute of Florida. She is the Medical Director for the Infection Prevention Department at HCA Largo and Pasadena Hospitals. She teaches Internal Medicine Residents in Largo and has worked with the Pinellas County Health Department regarding coronavirus policies and mitigation efforts. She sits on the Medical Executive Committee at Largo Hospital and the Medical Quality and Education Committee at St Anthony's Hospital. She is a Fellow of the Infectious Disease Society of America and ABIM Board Certified in Infectious Disease.
CRISTINA V. GARCIA, MD
Dr. Garcia completed her undergraduate training at the University of Florida. She completed her medical school training, Internal Medicine residency and Infectious Diseases Fellowship at the University of South Florida. She worked previously at Veterans Hospital Administration and holds an academic appointment as an Affiliate Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine. She has published research in Nontuberculous Mycobacteria, endemic fungi and amoebic meningoencephalitis. She joined ID Team in 2021. She is ABIM Board Certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Disease.
A.ADRIAN GONZALEZ, MD, MSPH
Dr. Gonzalez received his Master of Science in Public Health at Tulane University in New Orleans, and Doctor of Medicine degree in 2004 at Howard University in Washington D.C. He completed Internal Medicine residency at Cambridge Hospital in Massachusetts, Fellowship in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School Mount Auburn Hospital, Infectious Disease Fellowship at Saint Luke's Medical Center in Kansas City, and Transplant ID Fellowship at the University of Toronto. He's participated in research projects at the National Institutes of Health and the Centers for Disease Control, and has worked at the University of Florida Shands Hospital as Assistant Clinical Professor on the Infectious Disease Consultation Service. He joined ID Team in 2022.
JESUS E. DIAZ VERA, MD
Dr. Diaz completed undergraduate training at Florida International University (FIU) in the beautiful sunshine city of Miami, FL where he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and biochemistry. Initially he was interested in becoming a synthetic organic chemist but was pulled more towards microbiology and its impact on human health and illness. He worked as a private chemistry and biochemistry tutor and assistant biology instructor at FIU prior to applying and being accepted into the Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida (USF). He graduated medical school in 2019 where he published articles about fungal endocarditis and progressive Mycobacterium abscessus infection. Dr. Diaz stayed at USF for his Internal Medicine Residency and Infectious Disease Fellowship, which he completed in 2024. He joined ID Team in 2024.
KATE LAUER, APRN
Kate Lauer is an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse board certified in acute care and adult gerontology. She worked for eight years as a critical care nurse with experience in transplant and cardiac ICU as well as level 1 trauma. Prior to her work in the ICU, she was part of a MedEvac team as a flight nurse. She completed her Bachelor of Science at Chamberlain University and earned her Master of Science at Maryville University. She holds a national board certification from the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC). She joined ID Team in 2023.
Services
Inpatient
Your doctor may request an inpatient consultation with our team to assist with work up and management of acute or chronic infections. We see consults including but not limited to infections associated with blood, bone, implanted prostheses or devices, associated with solid organ transplant, UTI, cellulitis and skin infections, coronavirus, and HIV. We work in tandem with your primary team and do not admit our own patients.
Outpatient
We have a small outpatient presence designed for pre-transplant evaluations and patients following a hospital stay.
